2007 Colfax Girls Varsity Volleyball Team

Article by Sharon Hall

Nestled in the Pacific Northwest there is a small but tenacious volleyball program. With an enrollment (grades 10-12) of only 170 students, the 2007 Colfax High School Bulldog Volleyball team won their consecutive 4th State Championship! With a record of 32-2, Colfax became the third program in Washington state history to capture at least four consecutive volleyball championships. Seniors Abby Bruya, Megan Teade, Kelly Paulson, Jordan Harazin, Kinsey Doering and Sadie Lazzarini never lost a match at state during their distinguished careers, and several of them also play on the school's girl's basketball team that also has won four straight state titles. Their coach, Sue Doering, is the glue.

Coach Doering is in her 20th year at Colfax. In the past 13 years, 11 of those teams were in the State Championship game; of those 11, 6 were state champions. Sue has a total of 8 state championships. When this group of seniors was freshmen, Coach Doering had her own personal battle with breast cancer, and defeated that as well.

Senior night for this group was especially amazing for Coach Doering. Not only was her youngest daughter, Kinsey, among the seniors, the game itself marked the 600th volleyball win as a Bulldog coach for Coach Doering.

One of Coach Doering's former players is Angie Hall, AVP player and a 2008 member of Team Volley Chick. Angie was on Sue's 1995 State Champion team.
