Team VolleyChick Newsletter 1
As Spring approaches…many of ya'll are in the midst of club season and getting excited for school to be over. Well in the world of Cali's Beach VolleyChick's, we are all preparing for the highly anticipated 2008 AVP beach season to begin!!! All the chicks have been busting their butts to gain speed, strength and power through various workout programs. Check 'em out: Charles In Charge Training (www.), Bryan Hill with Rehab United (www.rehabunited.com), Velocity Sports Performance (www.velocitysp.com)
VolleyChick's had a widespread and fantastic off-season with girls traveling to places such as Holland, New Zealand, Fiji, Australia and Mexico. Our "first-born" chick (Cinta) has made a move to Minnesota with almost full recovery from shoulder surgery. A couple of chicks will be missing the first few events…Miss Van Fleet (Beth) is nursing a foot injury but should be ready to go as May springs about. Kim McGiven is finishing up a great indoor season overseas and will join the beach circuit when she returns home. With Beth out for the first two, her '07 season Chick partner, Suzana Manole, will be missing the first two events as well. It's a possibility those two chicks will bring their energy and experience back together for the Huntington Beach event in May but we shall see!
The duo of VolleyChick's, Angela McHenry and Lisa Rutledge, who have been linked since 2006 will be staying strong for this upcoming season with hopes of breaking into the main draw together. They have placed as high as 9th in past seasons and with VolleyChick on their side…who knows what they could do this summer?! There will also be two more VolleyChick duos competing in the first few events together. The first is a new team of Alicia Polzin and Janelle Ruen will join athleticism and experience to mix up the main draw seedings. Hopefully they will make even more noise for VolleyChick with some great wins together! A second team of Angie Hall and Lauren Mills will revisit a former partnership to see if their incredible defense and great chemistry can bring them even better success this time…might be good luck that they'll both be wearing VolleyChick!
VolleyChick Paige Davis, who missed some of last season recovering from shoulder surgery, will be looking outside of the chicks to start off the summer. She is partnering with a former '06 main draw player, Courtney Guerra, whom after taking a break for the '07 season is back and hungry to play again. Whatever the AVP is serving up, hopefully Paige has found someone hungry enough for some wins!
And last but not least, VolleyChick Jen Snyder has made a name for herself on the beach tour through former partnerships with a couple of VolleyChick's. But this year she will be pairing up with a non-chick for the first few events. A former indoor player, Whitney Pavlik, is a young player who jumped into the main draw a few times in the '07 season. Jen plans to represent VolleyChick well by making a big jump in ranking with Whitney this season!
With high hopes for the summer, the VolleyChick's are staying committed to volleyball throughout the country. In the name of spreading our passion for volleyball to the forthcoming generations, the VolleyChick squad has decided to organize and instruct some youth clinics. And since our travels bring us to some wonderful cities, our clinics will be able to reach farther than our Southern California hub. The attendees will get a chance to work with our AVP players on basic beach volleyball techniques and strategies, proceeded by a "question & answer" session in which the attendees will be able to ask any questions they might have about the players or about the game. Following the clinic, every participant will receive a VolleyChick gift from us to you.
Our first beach clinic took place on April 6th in San Diego, in which the VolleyChick girls worked with the Starlings Volleyball Club. It was a wonderful time for all those involved, coaches and players alike. We also have other clinics scheduled for May in Louisville & July in Chicago; exact dates still pending. In addition to the beach clinics, the VolleyChick crew has also run indoor clinics, spreading the passion to both surfaces. Our last indoor function, the Mile High VolleyChick Clinic in Lake Arrowhead, was a great success. We welcome the opportunity to work with other high school or club teams, indoors or out, especially if our travels bring us to your neighborhood. You can view the AVP schedule at the following link - http://avp.com/schedule.html. If you would like more information or would like to discuss further arrangements for a clinic near you, e-mail Lauren Mills at info@volleychick.com.
Adopting the mantra, "The whole is greater than its parts", each Team VolleyChick member is finding new ways to reach out to the community. As previously mentioned, several chicks are actively running beach and indoor clinics and camps. We are also working closely with Dream Big, a local organization that targets 4th and 5th graders at inner-city schools. Team VolleyChick members, along with representatives from other sports, briefly demonstrate skills in an assembly setting and then meet with small groups for panel discussions. It's our goal to provide the kids with female role models who have successfully pursued their athletic dreams.
Team VolleyChick is pleased to announce our partnership with Rygy Swimwear (www.Rygy.com) for the 2008 season. Rygy Swimwear is a lifestyle swimwear brand that infuses a passion for life into each design. They’ve been making big splashes in the fashion industry for 28 years. We are excited to sport their latest designs as we take big strides in 2008. If you attend an AVP event this summer, be sure to look for the ‘chicks in highly fashionable and functional bikinis. We are honored to represent the Rygy Sport collection.
